What is the difference between Moose and Elk? The calves stay with their cow during their first year. Unlike most other deer species, moose are solitary animals and do not form herds. Their diet consists of both terrestrial and aquatic vegetation. Although hundreds of thousands of Moose inhabit Sweden they can still be difficult to see in the wild. It can be found all over Sweden except on Gotland and the outer islands. Sweden has a denser Moose population than any other country. ![]() Moose is the largest species of the deer family. Natural predators: Man (hunting + traffic) Wolf, Brown Bear. Population in Sweden: The Summer population is estimated to be 300,000–400,000 moose. Lifespan: 12 – 25 years (but most are shot at early age) To make sure you see a Moose in Sweden you can join a guided Moose Safari. Moose that live close to villages and towns are used to people and therefore less shy. You don’t have to go deep into the forest to find moose. Moose spend most of their time in dense forests but during Summer evenings they venture out into open areas in search for food, and that is where you have a chance to see them! For the best chances to see moose during the Summer, simply drive around to various fields and meadows. Your biggest chance is to see them from your car window, but it is always more impressive to meet a Moose while walking through a forest. If you travel through Sweden, don’t expect to see Moose everywhere. Instead, high densities of predators such as Brown Bears, Wolverines and Wolves, find a place to live and roam freely.Moose can be found all over Sweden, but they can still be difficult to find. Especially near Kuhmo, not far from the Russian border, the Finnish no man’s land is devoid of humans. Some 1340km long, it runs mostly through uninhabited taiga forests and sparsely populated rural areas. ![]() This no man’s land is roughly the north/south international border between Finland and the Russian Federation. More over, it is such a privilege to be present in Finland’s wild ‘no man’s land. It makes the hide sessions always something to look forward too. Despite, having this experience, the set up is never the same as to who and when will perform on the taiga stage.
